Housing Advocacy Services

Everyone has the right to have a home that is accessible and affordable in the community they choose. At ACIL, we help people understand their housing options and provide support to builders, realtors, and landlords about the needs of people with disabilities.

Here are some of the services we offer:

  • Housing Education: Teaching builders and landlords about making homes accessible for people with disabilities.
  • Accessible Housing List: Keeping a list of accessible apartments and houses, both private and public.
  • Help with Applications: Assisting individuals in filling out housing applications.

If you are a person with a disability and would like more information, counseling or tenant rights brochures, please contact us at (304) 965-0376.

As with the Human Rights Act in West Virginia, the West Virginia Fair Housing Act also protects individuals who oppose discrimination and/or complain about discriminatory practices to management within the company or to the West Virginia Human Rights Commission. The Act states that these are protected activities, for which an employer cannot retaliate against an employee for participating.
