We are hiring an Executive Director!
We need someone bold enough, confident enough, (and/or crazy enough) to lead the Appalachian Center for Independent Living (ACIL) through these “uncertain times.” We want someone committed to the mission of the Independent Living community no matter what the future holds.
Ideally, that means fund raising experience, and grant writing experience, and public speaking experience, and advocacy experience, and demonstrated team building and management skills, and solid budget and financial management abilities. No one has all of those qualities, but those are the factors we will value.
Also, are you a person with a disability, or have lived disability experience in your own life or family? Experience and understanding of the issues facing individuals with disabilities is an obvious consideration for being an advocate for individuals with disabilities. Our offices are fully accessible, and a previous director of several decades was wheelchair mobile. We very much encourage individuals with disabilities to apply for this position.
ACIL has not done major fund raising in the past, instead relying primarily upon government funding. We know, given the current public funding chaos, that we need a director who can help us learn to build a more resilient program. If you have managed those sorts of activities in the past, that will be a strong consideration for us.
ACIL is a small dynamic nonprofit organization committed to empowering individuals with significant disabilities in West Virginia to live independently. In recent years, our 6-person staff (including the director) have made significant strides in program development, community engagement, improving our installed technology, and expanding our service offerings. We believe there’s a great base to build upon to lead ACIL into the next phase of growth and impact.
We believe we offer a competitive salary range ($51,000 to $66,000) for the post. Please see below for more information regarding the position, including the technical job description, summary of benefits, and minimum qualifications. Please apply as soon as possible, certainly by Friday, April 18, 2025. We may move quickly on highly qualified applications.
